I am attempting to record a video and all I get is a black screen. I tried this using the trial version on another computer and it worked fine. What am I doing wrong on this computer?

In order to record from media players, you should turn off hardware acceleration. The User Guide for My Screen Recorder has a section on this subject: Disabling Hardware Acceleration
