WebCam Monitor: Changing Camera Properties

Changing Camera Properties

WebCam Monitor allows you to change the camera properties from within the application.  The Camera properties vary depending on the type and manufacturer of the camera.  However, the basic properties remain more or less the same.  If you feel that your camera settings are not optimized for the environment you are monitoring, you can experiment using the properties window to get better results.  For example, if you are monitoring a poorly lit area then you can try increasing the brightness.  On the other hand, if you are monitoring a bright area like the inside of your store, then you can try changing the backlight compensation provided by your camera to prevent obscuring or silhouetting.  To change camera properties like brightness, contrast, flickering, backlight compensation etc:

  1. If Monitoring is in progress then on the Monitor menu, click Stop Monitoring first.
  2. On the Files menu, click Camera Properties.
  3. Click OK when you are done changing the properties.

Camera Properties are driver dependent.  One or more properties may be different for different types of cameras.  For IP cameras, when selecting Camera Properties, the homepage will open where you can change the settings.  You can even edit IP camera settings like port number, frame rate etc. from the Tools menu > Options > IP Camera tab.
