Security Monitor Pro v3.14

Security Monitor Pro: Supported Devices

Supported Devices

You can configure Security Monitor Pro to use any DirectShow® compatible video or audio capture device attached to your computer.

Security Monitor Pro can monitor and record from devices attached to the USB or FireWire port, as well as many other multimedia devices.  This includes:

  • Web Cameras.
  • Digital Video Cameras.
  • Microphones attached to the PC.
  • Web Cameras with built-in Microphones.

Security Monitor Pro can also work with up to four IP or Network Cameras capable of providing MJPEG video over HTTP.

USB Hubs

Most computers have at least two USB ports.  If you want to monitor from more USB cameras than the ports you have, use a USB Hub.  A USB Hub typically contains 4, 6 or 8 USB ports.  Using multiple cameras on a single hub can require too much data to be handled by a single USB port on the computer, so spread multiple cameras across multiple ports.

Setting Up Devices for Monitoring

Use the Add Camera Wizard to set up video and audio devices.  Security Monitor Pro can monitor up to eight network (IP) cameras and several USB or FireWire cameras simultaneously.  There is no set limit on the number of USB/FireWire cameras that can be monitored, but monitoring too many will result in dropped frames in recorded video and other problems.
