Making Good Screen Recordings
Let us discuss some basic steps you need to perform for a good recording with My Screen Recorder.
Planning your Presentation
The first step is to have a plan for your screen recording session. Decide whether you want to add voice narration while recording or to record the sound played by the application.
If you're going to record a voice-over narration, it is always a good idea to have a script, so you can maintain a steady voice and pace while you record. This script can also contain a list of actions (like opening particular windows), so you don't miss recording something important. You can pause and resume the recording by using the F8 shortcut key. It is a good idea to use a casual, friendly tone, even for corporate presentations.
Preparing to record
To get high quality screen recordings, you need to optimize the settings of My Screen Recorder:
- It is ideal to use the lowest screen resolution to record all the windows and objects on your desktop. This produces the smallest files and ensures that your recording can be played on all PCs. See Changing the Screen Resolution.
- The next step is to decide the region size. By default, the Full Desktop is captured during screen recording. If you want to capture only specific parts of your screen, then select Custom Region from File >> Region or from the Application Toolbar.
- Select a file format. Windows Media Video format is selected by default. According to your preference, you can also choose the AVI format for recording. See Video File Formats. Whichever format you select, you can also choose from the different quality profiles. Experiment to determine the lowest quality profile that will give the picture and audio quality you need. This will create the smallest files. Remember that if you reduce resolution or record a smaller area, you may be able to lower the quality profile level and still create good quality movies.
- You will have to disable hardware acceleration for smoother recordings, especially of applications having fast action motion or media players. Click on Tools menu and select Settings. In the Performance Tab, check the “Disable hardware acceleration during recording” option.
Start Recording your Screen Activity
- In My Screen Recorder, click the Record button on the toolbar to launch the Recording Options window. Please note the keyboard shortcuts for Record, Stop and Cancel are F8, F9 and F10 Keys respectively.
- Launch the application you would like to record. To start recording, press F8 on your keyboard. You can now run your application with the recording in the background. To stop the recording, press the F9 key. To cancel the recording, press the F10 key.
