I have the audio and visual tapes synched fine, but when I create movie, the audio begins to lag until by the end of the movie it is 2-3 seconds off.

I'm trying to create an AVI file. Dimension 320X240 (I'd like bigger if possible); Video compressor is MS MPEG 4 Video Codec V2 (recommended); audio is MPEG- Layer 3(recommended). Should I change the frame rate? up or down?

Thank you for assistance

The MPEG Layer 3 audio compressor provides reasonable quality in a small size and is available on most computers. However, sometimes, using this compressor may result in synchronization problems. Change the audio compressor to "Uncompressed" and then try making the movie.

The video and audio may also go out-of-synch when the video frame rate of the output movie differs significantly from the original movie. If there are multiple video clips added to the timeline, the "Auto Select" feature selects the highest frame rate to preserve video smoothness. Try keeping the frame rate as close to the original video clip as possible.

To change the dimension of the video, point to the File menu and click New Project. Either select a pre-defined dimension or a custom dimension. If you are making the movie in AVI, then you can also change the dimension from the Make Movie Wizard.

Thanks for your help. These are files I am adding to the timeline (one is 6 minutes long and the other is 13). If I decided to make the movies as an MPEG, what settings should I choose?

Make sure that the duration reported by the Files List and the clip in the Timeline is the same. To know the duration of a clip, select it in the Timeline. The Start and the End times are displayed at the bottom of the Timeline.

Standard MPEG and MPEG-2 files are used to burn CD, SVCD and DVD. If you are targeting these media then select the appropriate type from the "MPEG Output Type" box. You can also make movies in custom MPEG and MPEG-2 formats.

I am having exactly the same problem (VEM 4.1). I can make a /mov file just fine - stays in sync - but making an AVI seems out of sync - have tried several compressions for vid and audio but, no matter what I do, it seems that the audio begins to lag the video as it goes on until, by the ened of a 4 minute vid, it makes you a bit dizzy to watch and listen at the same time.

Also, I seem to have difficulty exporting am AVI that QuickTime will import. QT will play the audio but no video will be displayed for the VEM exported AVI file.

Making movies to AVI format in dimension greater than 320 x 240 pixels may result in sync problems on slower machines. In this case, selecting the correct AVI compressor becomes crucial. We found that Cinepak video compressor and Uncompressed audio gives the best results.

Newer or faster PCs generally do not show any noticeable synchronization problems in the output AVI file. This problem only occurs when playing AVI files on slower machines.

You can also import an AVI video created using Cinepak video compressor and Uncompressed audio in QuickTime player.

I've had the same problem audio video synchronization. I found a combination that seems to avoid the problem. Create an AVI using DivX 6 compression with IMA ADPCM audio compression. And make sure you have the frame rate the same as the fps showing in the files box in the VEM interface.

Video Edit Magic supports many compressors and each compressor has its own set of properties that may result in synchronization problems.

In our tests, we have found the following settings that will improve the quality and eliminate the synchronization issue.

1. Use the Indeo or Cinepak video compressors. They offer the best quality.
2. Reduce the Key Frame Rate to 8 frames or lower for better AVI seeking and to eliminate the synchronization issue.
3. Keep the Frame Rate as close as possible to the original video's frame rate. The frame rate is displayed in the Collections window next to the name of the file.
4. Increase the quality setting to between 80% and 90%
5. Select uncompressed audio

I think that saving with uncompressed audio is unacceptable due to the increased size of the file. I need to save the file with "MPEG Layer-3" audio compression.

Thanks and bye

If you keep the key frame rate to 8 or lower then you should be able to use an audio compressor like MPEG Layer-3 without any synchronization problems. Uncompressed audio is just an additional option for eliminating synchronization issues.
