I'm testing Video Edit Magic, and the resulting video will play off of a local drive in windows media player, but will only play the audio over a network drive or off of a web site.

Encoding Specs:
800 x 600 resolution
Indeo video 5.10 compression filter
15 fps
30 key frame rate
80 quality
MPEG Layer-3 Audio

If this is a codec issue, what codec can you recommend for edited Desktop Recorder videos, where filesize is fairly important, and the resolution to keep screen text etc. legible?

There are two possible reasons for video not playing over the LAN. These reasons are also valid when trying to play videos over a web site. Both problems are related to Windows Media Player.

1. The video codec is not available on the computer you are trying to play the video.
2. Not enough bandwidth is available to play both streams of video and audio.

Try playing the video after copying it first to your local computer. If you are able to play the video then the problem is bandwidth. If not then the problem is with the codec.

For LAN or web sites, where file size is important, we recommend you to use the Windows Media Video format (WMV). Video Edit Magic provides you with many profiles, which you can choose depending on the bandwidth available to you. WMV codecs are available on all Windows computers and most MAC computers.

Video Edit Magic also supports output to QuickTime MOV format that you can play on both MAC and Windows platforms.
