Creating Screen
Recordings For Web
Streaming |
| |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Making a demo by
capturing your screen
activity is the first
step towards
communicating with your
audience. Making
these presentations
easily accessible is the
next step, perhaps as
important as making the
demo itself. |

With
My Screen Recorder Pro,
you can make great
screen recordings and
distribute them in a
variety of ways.
One unique way is to
prepare your screen
recordings for
distribution on the
Internet. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
My Screen Recorder Pro
has a Publishing Wizard
that simplifies the
process of creating and
distributing screen
recordings down to two
steps. |
|
| |
|
1. |
Converting
screen
recordings
into a
format
suitable for
streaming. |
|
2. |
Publishing
these
recordings
to a
streaming
server. |

through the process. |

Creating a Screen
Recording in a Format
Suitable For Streaming |
|
| |
After
making a good screen
recording in AVI, My
Screen Recorder Pro can
convert it into a format
suitable for use on a
website. Windows
Media Format (WMV) is an
excellent choice for web
streaming because of its
high quality and small
file size. With
the conversion wizard in
My Screen Recorder Pro,
you can convert your
original AVI screen
recordings into WMV
files, tailor-made for
web streaming, with just
a few clicks.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
When performing the
conversion to WMV for
Internet streaming,
there are two custom
profiles available: |
|
| |
|
1. |
Screen
and voice
(100 Kbps)
|
|
2. |
Screen
and voice
(200 kbps) |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
You need to find out the
bandwidth available to
the majority of your
audience and then select
one of the two profiles.
The number in kbps is
the minimum speed
required by your
audience to view your
presentation over the
Internet. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
If you don't know the
bandwidth available to
your audience, choose
Screen and Voice (100
kbps) since it can be
viewed by a larger
audience. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
To convert an AVI screen
recording to WMV for
streaming: |
|
| |
|
1. |
On the
Tools
menu,
click on
Convert. |
|
2. |
Click on
Next
on the
Welcome
Screen. |
|
3. |
Click on
Add
and
browse to
the AVI
screen
recording
file that
you want to
convert and
publish. |
|
4. |
From the
Output
format,
select
WMV. |
|
5. |
Select
the
Output
folder
in which you
want to save
the
converted
file from
the dropdown
list.
Click on
New Folder
Shortcut
to make a
new folder.
It is a good
idea to make
a new folder
for all the
files you
wish to
stream so
you can
easily
access them
while
publishing. |
|
6. |
Click on
Next. |
|
7. |
In the
Output Video
Properties
screen, you
can choose
to resize
the video
during
conversion.
Resizing the
video to a
lower width
and height
results in
significantly
smaller file
size without
a noticeable
reduction in
video
quality.
The
conversion
wizard
applies
advanced
resizing
methods to
retain the
video
quality. |
|
| 1. |
Select the
Keep source video dimensions
option if you do not want to resize the video. |
| 2. |
To resize the video, select the
Resize video
option. From the
Video Dimension
dropdown, select a standard dimension or select
Custom
to specify a dimension of your choice. |
| 3. |
By default, the conversion wizard stretches the source video into the converted video's dimension. If the two dimensions do not have the same aspect ratio then the converted video may appear distorted after resizing. In this case, you can change the Resize Type. Click Resize Type, select the Preserve aspect ratio option and click OK. Click Next. |
|
|
|
|
 |
|
|
|
8. |
You can
create a
HTML page
with the
screen
recording
embedded in
it.
This is
optional.
Click
Next. |
|
9. |
Select
Profiles for
Streaming
from the
Profiles
folder
dropdown
and then
select the
Profile that
best matches
the
bandwidth of
your
audience
from the
Profile name
dropdown. |
|
|
|
|
|
 |
|
|
|
|
10. |
Click on
Next. |
|
11. |
Specify
Video
Information
such as
Title,
Author,
Copyright
and
Description.
This step is
optional.
The
information
you specify
will be
displayed
during
playback in
a media
player.
Click on
Next
to start
the
conversion
process. |

Publishing Media Files
to a Web Server or an
FTP Server |
|
| |
You can publish your
screen recordings
through a streaming
server like
Video Desk, which
will stream the
recordings to your
viewers. A
streaming server is a
good choice when you
want to track viewers
but don't want them to
download your original
presentation.
Streaming also lets
playback start almost
immediately. If
you want your recordings
to be downloadable, you
can choose to publish
them on your web server. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
|
| |
|
|
| |
For recordings that you
intend to stream, record
only the application you
are demonstrating,
instead of the entire
desktop. This will
reduce the size of the
screen recordings so
your viewers can easily
see the presentation
over the Internet.
If you have to record
the entire desktop,
consider recording at a
low screen resolution so
the presentation can be
easily viewed without
using scroll bars. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
To publish your screen
recordings: |
|
| |
|
1. |
On the
Tools
menu,
click on
Publish. |
|
2. |
The
welcome
screen of
the Media
File
Publishing
Wizard
displays
information
on how to
set up a
free trial
account on
Video Desk.
You can sign
up for the
free trial
if you plan
to use a
streaming
server.
Click on
Next. |
|
3. |
Click
Add
and
navigate to
the location
where you
have stored
your WMV
screen
recordings.
Click on
Next. |
|
4. |
In Step
2, specify
the FTP or
streaming
server
details.
If you are
working
behind a
proxy
server,
click on
Configure
Proxy Server
and set
up your
proxy
settings. |
|
|
|
|
|
 |
|
|
|
|
5. |
Click on
Next
to start
the
publishing
process. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
It is as simple as that!
Once your screen
recordings are
published, you can
advertise the links to
your viewers.
Making and distributing
presentations was never
this easy. |
